SDAM Skate @ the Embarcadero

SDAM Skate @ the Embarcadero from San Diego Action Media on Vimeo.

So last Friday our good friend Joel Piper from the band Confide was going to be in town, and seeing that Joel loves skating, we decided that shooting a skate video would be fun! We called up our friend Brennan Milligan, a Student Brand Manager for Red Bull San Diego and picked a spot in SD to shoot. We all kept talking about how sweet of a spot the Embarcadero was to shoot at, we are definitely blessed to live where we do.

We met another skater there named David Butler while we were filming, he was a really rad guy, and we were stoked he wanted to be a part of our little project. We also got to test out a method of shooting with the Canon 7d and a monopod for the skate footage that turned out to be a pretty solid little rig. The only downfall seems to be the fact that all of the footage is shot upside down, but this is easily flipped in post. Needless to say we will absolutely continue to use this rig in the future.

A Friday afternoon Skate session with Brennan Milligan, David Butler, & Joel Piper. Shot with a Canon 5d Mark II & a Canon 7d. Music: "Matt & Kim vs. Beastie Boys" mashup by DJ STV SLV. Shot and edited by Dan Coronado. Assistants Ben Raymond & Ben Peters. Stills shot by Ben Raymond.

Bring You're Adventures Home w/ The GoPro Hero HD!!!

So a few weeks ago we decided we wanted to take our videos to a new level and bring our friends along for the ride on our adventures. After researching a few different ultra mobile video cameras, the GoPro HD was the clear winner. Not only does it offer full 1080p HD video @ 30fps, it also has 960p @ 30fps, and 720p @ 60fps so you can slow those epic video clips down to silky smooth slo-mo. It supports up to a 32gig SD memory card and even has an HDMI Out plug, so you can view your videos on your larger than life TV right after you've lived larger than life outside. With 3 different kits available for Motorsports, Helmet Cam applications, and Surfing the mounting capabilities are virtually endless. Oh and did we mention this little guy comes in a completely water-proof housing up to 180feet?

We decided the Helmet Hero kit would get the most use here at San Diego Action Media. We also picked up, separately, the suction cup mount available in the Motorsports kit.

Recently we took a trip up to Mammoth Lakes, CA to mess around with our new toy on the steeps of Mammoth Mountain. It took a few trial and error runs to really dial it in but at the end of the weekend were very pleased with the results. Check out our new video and see for yourself. We will definitely be using this for great POV clips in our videos from here on out.

Ultra HD Flip video cam!

Ultra HD Flip video test from San Diego Action Media on Vimeo.

Meet Ben Peters & Dan Coronado. They are a couple members of the SDAM team that will be giving you updates and insight to our little world.  Today Ben & Dan tested out the Ultra HD Flip video camera. At around 4 inches in length its pocket-sized portability is awesome! Here are some of its features:

1280 x 720p HD Footage
The Ultra records up to 120 minutes of 1280 x 720p, 30fps MP4 footage to its 8GB built-in flash memory.
Ease of Use
Forget about menus, settings, and complicated operations. With the Ultra all you need to do is shoot and share. The camera features these simple controls: record, playback, pause, fast-forward, rewind, zoom and delete.
Flip Out Arm
When you're ready to transfer video to your PC or Mac, simply flip out the USB arm to share your memories via email or social media sites.
2" LCD Display
The 2" anti-glare LCD display on the Flip UltraHD gives you a generous place to compose and play back your videos.
FlipShare Software
The built-in FlipShare software helps you share your HD videos by compressing them into an internet friendly size. The software also walks you through the process of emailing, editing, capturing still images from video, and uploading to social media sites.
HDMI Connection
Watch all your beautiful high definition video on your HDTV, with just one cable, thanks to the HDMI mini output.

Needless to say the guys had a lot of fun testing it out, but the tests aren’t over yet. Next they’ll test the cameras water housing capabilities, so be sure to check back in with us! Have a wonderful weekend, some of our crew will be up in Mammoth shooting pictures and getting some fun footage with the GoPro Hero HD wide video camera, you’ll be seeing some of that footage soon as well!
